We received word from Roberto that we will have mattresses to sleep on. I am still not sure where we will be sleeping. I have heard mention that we may be using Roberto's house, a neighbor's house, a church or a combination of some sorts. It really doesn't matter to me. I am taking the minimum for bed clothes, a sleeping bag insert, a large beach towel and a blanket. I figure the sleeping bag insert will provide a cocoon of protection from bed bugs and other crawly-creepy-flying creatures in the area. A spray or two of the 98.11% deet bug spray may also be needed.
According to weather.com the temperatures in Sao Paulo are predicted to be 70-75 for the high and 55-60 for the low. Through Sunday they are not calling for rain and the humidity will be around 80%. Sounds pretty good to me, considering the 90-100 degree days here in Richmond of late, plus humidity of 93% and higher. Roberto stated that the weather will be cool, to me, I enjoy a cool place for sleeping.
Our mission team inspiration is to be flexible. The verses in Paul's letter to the Philippians, Chapter 2, makes this point very clear. That Chapter is the verse selected as the guiding word for the team. I have included postings for the NIVR and the Message translations of the scripture.
Tomorrow we get together at Clover Hill Assembly of God to pack the team bags. These are the suitcases that are being pack with team supplies needed for the trip beyond one's normal clothes and toiletries. We are collectively packing things like sleeping bags, bed and bath linens, snacks, medical supplies as well as gifts to give to our hosts and to the children. I have my bed clothes, the medical supplies, some router bits, a set of Craftsman screwdrivers, and the kites to be packed into the team bags. I also borrowed a suitcase from my sister (Actually, she may be finding that out in reading this. She had loaned it to my mom for our family vacation in July and my mom loaned it to me tonight) to add to the number to team bags we have available to take with us. Fortunately, Delta airlines allows us to take 2 bags with us to Brazil with no baggage fee. Plus the weight limit is at 70 pounds. We may need that extra 20 pound per bag.
Chris told me last Sunday that we are planning to take a saw with us. It should be interesting. Please pray for our success in having enough volume in the cases to fit everything in and still keep it under the weight limit.
