WHEN: AUGUST 12 – AUGUST 19, 2010
WHERE: SAO PAULO, BRAZIL – Metro area population = over 20 million. We will likely sleep in either a church or a school. Temperatures will be 75 to 80 degrees during the day and 50 to 60 degrees at night.
WHAT: Light to medium construction (painting to block laying, physical work at either the orphanage or the trades school) plus children’s ministry at the orphanage. Relationship building is key with daily devotionals, praise/worship and spending time with the Brazilians. Plan would also include a professional Brazilian soccer game and a quick opportunity to check out the city sights. Portuguese is the spoken language in Sao Paulo. Few speak English but we will have an interpreter. Possible children ministries include: Face painting, egg toss, ice cream, soccer, marshmellow-smores on a bon fire, hot dogs, puppet shows, kite flying.
WHY: He defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow, and loves the alien, giving him food and clothing – Deuteronomy 10:18
WHO: You! … up to 20 people. Main qualification… be a flexible team player at all times.
HOW: And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4:19. Cost/participant - approximately $1600 to $1700 total (anticipated worst case). $100 deposit due February 21, 2010. Team activities may be planned to help raise funds for participant costs and/or project costs once in Sao Paulo.
